PADI Deep Diver Specialty Course

< RETURN TO DIVE COURSES

The Course

Deep diving is not only challenging but extremely exhilarating!!! With the PADI Deep Diver specialty course you will be able to experience that excitement first hand by extending your recreational depth limit to 40 metres.

During the course you will learn how to plan, set-up & execute deep dives with particular consideration to factors such as increased air consumption, temperature changes, shorter no-decompression limits and physiological effects like nitrogen narcosis.

By the end of the course you will be confident in your ability to safely dive deeper and understand how to avoid or deal with problems associated with deeper diving.

Course Content

The course consists of a knowledge development session & 4 Open water dives which will cover:

  • Planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of deep diving
  • Risk factors and decompression-tables review
  • Safety stops and emergency decompression procedures
  • Special equipment, descent lines and buoyancy control considerations
  • Procedures for flying after diving and high altitude diving
  • Orientation to recompression chambers

Knowledge Development

Knowledge development is based on a self-study method, allowing you to study in your own time, at your own pace. Home study is backed up by an academic session with a PADI Instructor, to ensure full understanding of deep diving theory.

Open Water Dives

Students must complete 4 Open Water dives to certify as a PADI Deep Diver. Each dive has specific tasks designed to help students understand the safety techniques, equipment selection and physiological aspects of deeper diving. Timed tasks, navigational exercises & simulated emergency decompression stops are amongst the skills completed during the 4 dives.
