Sharks, Currents and Naked Divers! Sub-Missions holiday to the Red Sea.

Red Sea

The latest dive club trip to the Red Sea was once again a massive success! Sub-Mission dive club spent the week on board the beautiful Grand Sea Serpent; whose itinerary included the Brothers Islands, Daedalus Rock, Elphinstone and sites local to Marsa Alam.

With a minimum requirement of 50 dives each, the diving was certainly challenging on some sites, with strong currents and rough seas.

It certainly wasn’t enough to put off our team of thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies! In fact it was our daily mission to swim into the blue to look for sharks and although we didn’t see as many as we had hoped our waiting eventually paid off with close encounters of the elasmobranch kind!

As well as the usual but extremely impressive Grey Reef Shark, a school of 20 hammerheads was also spotted on one of the dives. Those that missed this encounter watched in awe as a Thresher Shark swam inquisitively around them giving a great opportunity to take photos and video footage.

The scuba diving was superb, with some great night dives, octopus, squid, scorpion fish and lion fish could be found in every crack of the reef. Several dive club members also had the privilege of getting fairly close to the more rarely spotted naked diver, who was another guest on the boat celebrating his 400th Dive.

As well as the amazing diving, the holiday was a chance for a much needed rest and relaxation for dive club members from their hectic lifestyles. Diving from a liveaboard is by far the best way to maximise dive time and minimise fuss and hassle.

Sub-Mission look forward to seeing you on the next liveaboard in 2008 for more fantastic diving!
