During a year long trek through South East Asia & the South Pacific, Darren & Katy witnessed some of the world’s most breathtaking underwater scenery. They were keen to educate & enthuse others about the aquatic world, so upon their return to the UK in 2002 they established Sub-Mission Dive School to offer scuba lessons & scuba diving gear to the Stoke On Trent & Newcastle Under Lyme areas.
Sitting on a beach in Malaysia they came up with a dream and since then haven’t looked back; building Sub-Mission into a thriving, busy PADI Dive Centre with a fantastic team of staff eager to share their passion for scuba diving.
The formula to success has been a never ending mountain of enthusiasm for diving and the magical experience that it offers. Couple this with hard work, dedication and determination to help customers get the most out of their hobby and you’ve got all of the ingredients required with an extra touch of fun and adventure to top the mix off perfectly.
Darren and Katy’s aim is to equip every scuba diver with the ability to dive their dream destinations; to swim with whale sharks, to glide under the ice, to explore sunken wrecks, to teach others to dive and to enrich their lives with incredible experiences of the aquatic kind.
As well as encouraging others to continue on with their diving education, Darren and Katy have always strived to learn more and progress their diving further. This commitment is evident in both of them achieving PADI Course Director status; the pinnacle of the diving profession. Having two full time PADI Course Directors means that Sub-Mission can meet the rising demand for both recreational PADI courses & PADI Professional level courses and offer an unrivalled relationship with PADI Professional candidates who are aiming high for the future. As PADI Course Directors, Darren and Katy ensure a high standard of training amongst the PADI Instructional dive team, keeping them up to date with the latest changes and at the forefront of PADI’s newest programs and teaching methods.
We are proud to be an offficial PADI Dive Center, enabling us to offer a wide range of PADI diving courses, with diving lessons for complete beginners all the way through to PADI Scuba Courses for those looking to become a PADI Divemaster or PADI Scuba Instructor. Conservation is a hot topic in the Dive Centre and there is a real passion for aiding and enabling change. Katy has driven a calendar of events and Project AWARE activities each year to allow divers & snorkellers to get involved & make an important impact to the fragile marine ecosystem. Due to the success of raising awareness and much needed funds for marine related issues, Sub-Mission has been awarded numerous accolades for their commitment to marine conservation. Through our many PADI Project AWARE programs, we aim to educate and enthuse others about this wonderous world. The massively popular Project AWARE Coral Reef Conservation programs help divers to understand the complexities of life on the reef as well as discussing the threats that the aquatic realm faces. Katy's enthusiasm for teaching these programs is well demonstrated and students enjoy learning through her energy.
Another incredibly important aspect of the Dive Centre is Sub-Mission’s Dive Club, which is a lively and exciting way to keep divers active, interested and getting the best out of the sport. The dive club has many adventurous activities organised throughout the year including exotic dive holidays, weekend dive trips exploring the UK’s marine and wreck heritage, evenings with interesting and charismatic guest speakers & social events that are bound to get a bit wild.
